The Eastern Michigan University Black Alumni Association (EMUBA) is a volunteer-led, membership-based organization that was established in 1984 to create a lasting network of support for students and alumni. Since its founding, EMUBA has been dedicated to empowering Eastern Michigan University students—especially minority students—by offering scholarships, fostering civic and community pride, and helping students transition into professional careers while staying connected to the broader alumni community.

Beyond financial assistance, Eastern Michigan University Black Alumni Association (EMUBA) celebrates Black excellence and strengthens the EMU legacy through signature programs and events. These include Homecoming Weekend traditions such as the Step Show, Afterglow, Tailgate, and Alumni Brunch, as well as the annual Holiday Party and spring gatherings. Together, these efforts provide meaningful opportunities for alumni to give back, stay engaged, and ensure future generations of EMU students thrive.

EMUBA prioritizes support for African American and other minority students, ensuring they have the resources needed to thrive as they pursue their degrees at EMU. Beyond financial aid, we are committed to guiding students as they transition into professional careers, fostering a strong sense of civic and community pride, and encouraging lifelong engagement with the university through the Black Alumni Chapter.

Additionally, EMUBA is dedicated to inspiring pre-college students to pursue higher education. We actively participate in and support Eastern Michigan University’s recruitment efforts, helping prospective students recognize EMU as a pathway to academic and professional achievement.
